Horticultural Buyer

Siamo have partnered with a fresh, forward thinking and exciting client, who are currently leading the ecommerce market looking to expand by integrating an experienced Buyer into their team in the Nottingham area.

As a Buyer you will be reporting directly to Founder and CEO, the commercially minded Product Manager will design and source products that will amaze and delight their engaged and loyal customers.


The majority of this role can be done remotely, but will require travel to our clients warehouse in Nottingham roughly one day/week.


This Buyer will have the following responsibilities:

  • The core of this role will be to source new plants, pots and accessories, to supply our existing product lines and develop new ones.
  • Deliver new product pipeline and coordinate sourcing, delivery, marketing and go-live to website for all aspects of their products: not just plants, this includes educational supporting materials, ancillary products for the website and freebies to surprise and delight our customers.
  • Develop a product timeline for all products to be listed on the website to time in with key gifting events and calendar events, you’ll need to liaise closely with the marketing team to do that.
  • Manage timelines for delivery and effectively communicate this with the team, ensuring it is clear what stock is on order at any given time.
  • Maintain existing strong relationship with current plant and sundries suppliers, build out more excellent relationships with new suppliers.
  • Ensuring the company is always getting the best value for money.
  • Delivering products that will inspire and delight our customers.
  • Review company data to understand which products are performing strongly, and develop products based on the knowledge you gain from this.
  • Liaise closely with Marketing team to ensure the right products are in place at the right point in time, and the warehouse team, to ensure products can be shipped effectively on time.

Ideal candidate will have the following exposure and attributes:

  • Great work ethic, self-motivated, get things done kind of personality.
  • Commercially minded, with a good understanding of our target customer.
  • You’ll need a good eye for design: both landscape and interior design with plants, and an awareness of how our products are being used by customers.
  • You don’t wait to be told what to do and you’re able to make smart decisions, quickly.
  • Highly organized and able to stick to regular weekly purchasing deadlines as well as ad hoc schedules.
  • Commercially savvy and business minded, confident with a spreadsheet and formuli to calculate pricing and margins.
  • Excellent communicator, both written and spoken.
  • Ability to empathise strongly with our customers and pre-empt products that will be popular with them.
  • Excellent knowledge of indoor and outdoor plants and their care, ideally with an industry-recognized horticultural qualification.
  • If you don’t have experience of working in ecommerce, you have a very good understanding of the ecommerce landscape and the value of proposition.
  • Ability to cope with uncertainty and a fast-changing landscape.
