Siamo are partnering with a well-known, family run business based in Chipping Norton, who manage private and commercial client landscape projects, mainly focused on the sourcing, supply and planting of specialist trees from the UK and Europe, who are looking to on board a Horticulturalist / Gardener to join their team through a period of growth.

Your role as a Horticulturalist /gardener will be working full time, supporting garden and landscape installation projects. You will also be required to carry out maintenance on existing landscapes and recently planted projects in the Cotswolds and surrounding areas.

This is a front-line position it is essential that you hold good knowledge of trees and estate maintenance, applications are welcome where there is proven experience in this type of role. You will be supported by the Project Manager who will visit the sites regularly, but you must be able to use your own initiative to deal with day-to-day situations and you may be the first port of call for the client.

The successful candidate will hold the following:

  • Full, clean UK driving license.
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools.
  • Experience working with machinery in small and large project site conditions.
  • Good all-round understanding of hard and soft landscaping.
  • Good communication skills with clients and staff and understanding of confidentiality.
  • A good knowledge of plants, pruning, pest and disease identification and treatment.

  • Be punctual and presentable.

 

The Role:

  • 40 hours a week.
  • Watering all newly planted trees and shrubs using a combination of irrigation systems.
  • A detailed feeding schedule will be in place to carry out seasonally.
  • Pruning of young trees and crown shaping of semi mature specimens.
  • Guys, ties and staking to support the newly planted trees.
  • Fence maintenance: stabilisation and tensioning of electric fencing, monitoring perimeter for faults or damage, grass maintenance beneath fence line to ensure effective running capacity.
  • Grass maintenance: ensuring the bases of all trees remain from grass/weed competition.
  • Cyclical flail cutting of all grasses within the plantation/woodland belt and along the rides.
  • Spraying: application of herbicides and fungicides when necessary.
  • Mulching: application of mulch to tree bases.
  • Planting of any replacement trees needed.
  • Any other ground works as required.
  • Provision of regular reports detailing condition of trees and any actions needed.
  • to use a bowser, flail mower, pest control sprayer and avant for this role. Training could be provided for the right candidate.

 

Desirable skills:

  • First Aid Certificate.
  • PA1 and PA6 Spraying.
  • CSCS card.
  • Driving license categories BE,C1,C1 & C1E.
  • NPORS/CPCS Card: All Terrain Telehandler.
  • NPORS/CPCS Card: Excavator Ticket.
  • Level 2 RHS Horticultural/ Arboricultural qualifications or similar relevant qualifications in Horticulture, Landscaping or Arboriculture.

A DBS check will be required for the successful applicant.
