Oxford Biomedica’s Early Development Group is accountable for the development and expansion of the early product pipeline, working with a network of key opinion leaders and sub-speciality experts.

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Scientist to join the team.  The purpose of this role is to plan, execute and report relevant investigations and to support and supervise other members of the Group as needed to aid the Group Leader in meeting Group/Department objectives.

Your responsibilities in this role would be:

  • Responsibility for the planning and execution of one or more projects.
  • Ensure experimental data is submitted to PatentSafe and compiled into research reports if required.
  • Prepare or assist in the preparation of scientific papers for publication as required.
  • Responsible for the completion of tasks in relation to their criticality.
  • Work will be conducted in accordance with the OXB quality management system.
  • Writing and reviewing of departmental documentation.
  • Preparation of reports and documents to support the group’s activities.
  • Support other scientists within the department.

To be successful in this role, you will have the following skills and experience:

  • PhD or equivalent in relevant bioscience (e.g. virology, molecular and/or cellular biology) with post-doctoral experience in academia or industry demonstrated by a strong publication record.
  • Relevant laboratory experience in one or more of the following areas: molecular virology, molecular biology, tissue culture, molecular biology, cellular biology or protein chemistry.
  • Excellent lab-based skills with particular emphasis in cellular and molecular virology including but not limited to: viral vector production/purification, DNA/microbial cloning, RT-PCR, qPCR, immunoblotting/immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, cell culture (adherent/suspension), protein characterisation, cell transfection and flow cytometry.
  • Knowledge in virology and gene therapy would be advantageous
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and execute projects to aggressive timelines with capacity to adapt to rapid changes in project priorities.
  • Relevant high level laboratory technical experience and of familiarity with the technologies involved.
  • Good knowledge of the literature relating to gene and cell therapies.
  • Demonstrate expertise in several experimental procedures and an area of knowledge.
  • Understanding of laboratory health and safety requirements.
  • Competency in data capture reporting and management systems e.g. PatentSafe and archiving.
  • Fully trained and competent to undertake analytical tasks within the framework of the Research Group
  • Understanding of laboratory health and safety requirements and ensuring reports and junior staff adhere to these.
  • High level of familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Competency in data capture reporting and management systems e.g. PatentSafe and archiving.
  • Will have good understanding of the overall activities in the department to contribute useful ideas at meetings.
  • High level of familiarity with the current literature relating to research projects.
  • Group-specific in depth knowledge of the LentiVector platform, its manufacture and testing.
  • Broad knowledge of the activities in the Research Group.
  • Expertise in an area of research.
