Gene and cell therapy is the treatment of disease by the delivery of therapeutic DNA into a patient’s cells, providing long term and potentially curative treatments for a wide range of diseases. With the potential to transform medicine, the sector holds significant promise with the first commercial products now launched and others rapidly approaching the market.

Our recent successes are driving significant growth.  As such, we are looking for a Senior Scientist, Proteomics.  The purpose of this role is the development of Mass Spectrometry based protein analytics.

The role responsibilities and deliverables are:

  • Perform sample preparation for use in mass spectrometric techniques for the analysis of proteins
  • Generate MS data to characterise cells and complex protein mixtures
  • Analyse MS data using Protein Discovery, Maxquant and Spectronaut
  • Provide basic statistic and bioinformatics analysis of MS data, interpret and present data at internal meetings and external conferences
  • Develop Parallel reaction monitoring (PRM) for the quantitation of peptides
  • Perform tissue culture and labelling experiments
  • Provide technical support accross functions at OXB
  • Contribute to research-related activities within Oxford Biomedica
  • Collaborate with other research departments
  • Assay and MS instrument troubleshooting
  • Carry on research-related administration (Maintain consumable stocks, generate SOP&ROP, Risk assessment)
  • Independently manage daily research activities and support junior members of staff

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • A Master degree in the area of biology, biochemistry, cell biology or similar; Ideally a PhD in relevant field of studies
  • A solid background in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, ideally with experience in analysing complex protein mixtures and cells
  • A background in biological sciences with a strong interest in learning and applying mass spectrometry in research
  • High level analytical capability
  • Proven track record of mass spectrometric usage, trouble shooting and application in research
  • Implementation of new innovative techniques and technologies
  • Excellent knowledge of protein chemistry, cell biology or virology
