Gene and cell therapy is the treatment of disease by the delivery of therapeutic DNA into a patient’s cells, providing long term and potentially curative treatments for a wide range of diseases. With the potential to transform medicine, the sector holds significant promise with the first commercial products now launched and others rapidly approaching the market.

Our recent successes are driving significant growth. As such, we are looking to recruit a Scientist 3/4 to join our Translational Science Group.  The purpose of this role is to monitor the persistence, bio-distribution and shedding of EIAV/HIV based vectors in clinical and non-clinical samples utilising a number of nucleic acid extraction and PCR techniques in accordance with GLP/GCP compliance and drive continuous quality improvements in compliance with GLP/GCP regulations

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Provide analytical support to the Study Directors (SDs), Principle Investigator (PIs) and Analytical Project Managers (APMs) with the scope to train to become a SD/PI/APM
  • Monitor the biodistribution, persistence and shedding of EIAV/HIV vectors in clinical and non-clinical samples utilising a number of nucleic acid extraction techniques and PCR techniques in accordance with GCLP/GLP compliance
  • Drive continuous quality improvement with the compliance with GLP/GCP regulations
  • Maintain a high standard of data recording and reporting of all results
  • Perform quality control checks on assay packs for a variety of assay types
  • Support the maintenance of GLP compliant facilities, performing general laboratory duties, for example calibration, monitoring and cleaning of equipment
  • Assist with the improvement of current assays and the development and validation of new assays
  • Perform quality control checks on assay packs for a variety of assay types
  • Produce documentation (SOPs, equipment files) to a high standard
  • Contribute to group meetings, presentation of data, suggesting and implementing quality improvements

Key skills and requirements:

  • A minimum of degree level (or equivalent) in an appropriate biological science subject
  • Previous laboratory experience working to GLP / GCP compliance
  • Excellent attention to detail and a meticulous attitude to documentation of data capture
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills

Person Specifications:

The Translational Sciences Group is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with relevant laboratory experience, preferably in a GLP/GCP environment.  You will have extensive experience in at least two of the following analytics: extraction of nucleic acids from biological samples, qPCR and RT-qPCR, SDS-PAGE, Western blotting, cell culture and be capable of generating robust, accurate and precise results.  You will be able to provide evidence of performing scientific research. You will be well organised and have excellent attention to detail.
