Scientist Grade 3 (qPCR), Translational Sciences Group

35 / per week - Full-Time
Cowley ,

Oxford BioMedica is a pioneer of gene and cell therapy and our work is helping to deliver life changing treatments.

Gene and cell therapy is the treatment of disease by the delivery of therapeutic DNA into a patient’s cells, providing long term and potentially curative treatments for a wide range of diseases. With the potential to transform medicine, the sector holds significant promise with the first commercial products now launched and others rapidly approaching the market.

Our recent successes are driving significant growth.  As such, we are looking for a Scientist Grade 3 with qPCR experience to join our Translational Sciences Group.  The purpose of this role is to perform analytics to provide safety (vector biodistribution, persistence and shedding) and efficacy (transgene expression) data for OXB and client products in accordance with appropriate GLP/GCP(Labs) compliance.

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • Provide analytical support to the Study Directors, Principle Investigator and Analytical Project Managers with the scope to train to become a SD/PI/APM
  • Monitor the biodistribution of EIAV/HIV vectors and vector persistence and shedding in non-clinical and clinical samples utilising nucleic acid extraction and PCR techniques in accordance with GLP/GCP(Labs) compliance
  • Provide support as required for monitoring of immune responses and transgene expression in clinical and non-clinical samples by performing Gyrolab xPlore immune-assays, ELISA, ELISpot, and Western blotting techniques in accordance with GLP/GCP(Labs) compliance
  • Maintain a high standard of data recording and reporting of all results
  • Perform Quality Control checks on GLP/GCP(Labs) compliant assay paperwork
  • Support the maintenance of GLP compliant facilities, performing general laboratory duties, for example calibration, monitoring and cleaning of equipment
  • Assist with the improvement of current assays and the development and validation of new assays
  • Produce documentation (SOPs, Equipment Records) to a GLP/GCP(Labs) compliant standard
  • Contribute to group meetings through presentation of data, suggesting and implementing quality improvements

Key skills and requirements:

  • A minimum of degree level (or equivalent) in an appropriate biological science subject
  • Good molecular biology laboratory experience
  • Excellent attention to detail and a meticulous attitude to documentation of data capture
  • Experience working to GLP/GCP(Labs)/GMP compliance is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as in a team setting
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills

Person Specifications:

The Translational Sciences Group is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual with relevant laboratory experience, preferably in a GLP/GCP(Labs)/GMP environment.  In particular, you will have extensive experience in the extraction of nucleic acids from biological samples, qPCR and RT-qPCR.  It would also be desirable for you to be able to demonstrate working experience in performing ELISA, ELISpot, SDS-PAGE, flow cytometry, Western blotting or cell culture techniques.  You will be capable of generating robust, accurate and precise results.  You will be well organised and have excellent attention to detail.

Please note that applications will only be reviewed once a CV has been attached and the Questionnaire has been completed.
