Oxford BioMedica’s Analytical Automation Group (AAG) is part of the Platform Research Department. AAG’s remit is to contribute to the research and development of new and existing assays to support the development of Oxford BioMedica’s pipeline. AAG evaluate and implement new technologies to improve the performance and efficiency of analytical work streams using cutting-edge advanced robotics. The group also perform validation and qualification of assays and equipment for use in QC release testing.

Our recent successes are driving significant growth. As such, we are looking for a Senior Analytical Automation Scientist (Robotics) (Grade 4/5) to join this team

Key responsibilities and accountabilities:

  • To assist in the implementation of digitally enabled robotics targeting key bottle necks in analytical testing
  • To develop lab workflows for automation
  • To liaise with analytical departments (GMP and Research) in order to facilitate the execution of high-throughput automated protocols
  • To perform, develop and optimise new and validated workflows
  • To perform data analysis using complex Excel spreadsheets
  • To assist with the implementation of LIMS
  • To write, revise SOPs and provide training
  • To develop new lentiviral vector transduction workflows on automated liquid handlers
  • To assist in the execution of complex Design of Experiments (DoE) protocols

 Key skills and requirements:

  • Degree in Life Sciences/Science/Analytical Science with relevant experience in academia or industry
  • Experience with digitally enable robotics and automation
  • Good experience in sterile cell culture using mammalian cells
  • Extensive research and development background in molecular biology techniques (nucleic acid extraction, quantitative real-time PCR)
  • Knowledge of basic virology, lentiviral vectors and gene therapy
  • Experience in working in GMP-like environments
  • A strong background in assay development
  • Experience of automated data analysis and/or visualization software e.g. JMP
  • Desirable experience in flow cytometry
  • Desirable knowledge of different coding languages

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent planning and time management ability
  • Ability to undertake projects to agreed timelines and adapt to rapid changes in project priorities
  • Ability to train operators
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously to support validation projects and communicate progress and any issues via team meetings and project meetings
  • Ability to innovate
