With the potential to transform medicine, the sector holds significant promise with the first commercial products now launched and others rapidly approaching the market

Our recent successes are driving significant growth. As such, we are looking for a Principal Scientist for the newly formed ‘Vector Purification Research’ (VPR) team, as part of the Platform Research department.  The department is involved in the design, development, and production of lentiviral vectors for external and internal feasibility programs; the VPR team’s activities will be focused on the downstream purification aspects of these activities. This is a unique position within the industry to undertake pure research and transition new concepts into GMP compliant manufacturing arena.

The VPR team will have two over-arching aims: [1] transition early commercially relevant research-level technologies into the Rrocess Research and Development group, and [2] work closely with the Vector Service Team in generating vector preparations for collaborators and pre-clinical studies.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join the VPR team. The successful candidate will be taking a lead in:

  • Testing new chromatography approaches in relation to lentiviral vector purification
  • Cross-group activities within Platform Research; transitioning novel technologies from concept/proof-of-principle into downstream purification paradigms
  • Vector preparations for collaborative studies
  • Early product feasibility studies for external clients
  • Other activities within the Research Department e.g. MAb/protein purification

Key Tasks

  • Chromatography procedures e.g. ion-exchange, diafiltration, affinity purification
  • Analytics and sample management
  • Molecular biology techniques
  • Keep excellent experiment/data records
  • Organisation of parallel projects/activities
  • Support other members of both the VPR team and wider Research Department as required

Required Skills/Knowledge/Qualifications

  • Post-doctoral/Industry experience and PhD in a relevant Biological Science subject
  • Relevant chromatography experience including Akta and/or affinity purification of viral vectors/vaccines
  • Demonstrable excellent lab-based skills
  • Deep understanding of viral vector Downstream purification
  • Demonstrable ability to work well in a team and lead/motivate others
  • Ability to demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills

Desirable

  • HTP Downstream modelling
  • Protein engineering experience
  • Knowledge in virology/vectorology would be an advantage
  • Experience with communicating and interaction with third party clients/collaborators/partners
  • Understanding of upstream cell culture process development
  • Ability to supervise others and drive multiple activities
  • Good aptitude for creative thinking and problem solving
